How can choose a medical institute for study abroad?

With high saturation in the Indian medical industry and a growing demand of foreign universities among Indian students has opened the gateway to a vast array of option for the upcoming generations. Choosing a college within the country is fairly easy – we all know the top ones and the we just settle for the best that we can attain with a score. Choosing one outside the country? Not so much.

Firstly, aspirants have the option to apply to a limited number of universities since the application fee of different colleges across different nations can stack up and become hefty. Another major drawback is a lack of awareness. While it is easier for us to find out the inside information of a university of one’s own country, what’s happening inside another country is something we can’t be so sure about. Additionally, studying medicine is a long-term dedication and if one opts for the wrong place, they may feel stuck in a foreign country with no emotional or moral support. Medicine, being a very serious occupation, involves strict licensing rules in each country with a different education system – what’s acceptable in another country may not be acceptable at one’s home country.

With so many issues in mind, consciously or unconsciously, fear and anxiety are bound to be built up – It’s a gamble with your life, of course. However, as scary as it may sound, there is also a step-by-step or a clear and concise way students can learn, research and discover so that they land up in the right place to fulfil their dreams.

  1. Surface-Level Research: A surface-level research is the first step for a novice. Students with absolutely no knowledge in medicinal background, colleges and the current scenario first need to look up popular destinations and student opinions. This can be done simply by logging in to google and reading mainstream articles on MBBS abroad – there are plenty available. Make sure to briefly note and enlist all your options without scratching out anything yet.
  2. The Details: Even if you don’t like a country or the idea of it, it is best to get into the details of each country in an unbiased manner. Enlist the pros and cons of each destination along with their MBBS course and weigh logically. Personal preference is always a thing – the US may be offering a higher quality education, but some may still prefer the lifestyle of a European country. Highlight your own personal preferences on the same.
  3. Measuring Costs: The greatest barrier that stands between dreams, education and reality is money. It is essential to calculate all costs – tuition, visa, travel, living – that a country would cost you. Generally, most countries would cost as much as or lesser than a private medical college in India if a student is careful but it is essential to be knowledgeable beforehand and plan accordingly. It is time to assort countries based on what you can afford.
  4. Tenure and Course Curriculum: Different countries have different education systems, different tenures and different modes of assessment. Of countries shortlisted up to this step, all details of the curriculum should be skimmed through along with the eligibility criteria or requirements. Once well-researched into the same, cross out the ones that don’t suit you. Check for any language barriers in the mode of teaching as well.
  5. Enlisting Colleges: Of the finalized countries, search for the top colleges within the same. Study their environment, tuition fee, application processes, etc to get a good idea of what it’s like. If possible, contact students that are not affiliated with any counselling services for genuine feedback of a university.
  6. Other Minor Details: Although these do not matter as much, it does not hurt to be well-informed of the nit bits here and there. How far is it from your home country? Is there any Indian food available around? Would the climate suit you? How many Indian students are enrolled in the country each year in MBBS? These are just some factors that may enhance the quality of your educational period.

A LIST OF SPECIFICS

Here are some things, you’d like to be aware of about certain countries that may ease your burden.

  • Belonging to a non-native English-speaking country, all Indians need to produce a language proficiency certificate (IELTS/TOEFL). Irrespective of the certificate, students still need to learn the language of the country in their first year to be eligible for certificates.
  • The Commonwealth countries follow a similar structure of MBBS to India while others such as the US do not admit students into professional medical education right after their 10+2.
  • China allows students to take up their mandatory internship back in India if they desire to (6th academic year). The degree is only granted after the internship.
  • Bangladesh doesn’t allow gap of more than 2 years after class 12th.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
