One of the most prominent English language competency examinations for higher education and immigration is the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
If you are an overseas learner from a nation where English is not the major language of teaching, you must demonstrate sufficient English competence to be admitted to a UK institution.
IELTS test prices can range from 2,170 Chinese yuan (323 US dollars) in China to INR 15,750 (198 US dollars) in India and 53,49,000 Vietnamese dong (229 US dollars) in Vietnam.
Some universities will waive the IELTS criterion if a student takes an alternative exam or fulfils the university’s language criteria. The following colleges provide IELTS exemption:
Even though it is now placed 114th in the latest recent QS World University Rankings 2023, you may still apply to this top institution without submitting an IELTS score.
If you hold an English-language qualification equivalent to a C or higher in either GCSE English Language or English Literature, you are qualifying for an IELTS result exemption. This is also a possibility if you have finished an undergraduate or postgraduate degree programme outside of the United Kingdom that the University of Nottingham has recognised.
You can also enrol in pre-sessional English lessons at the University of Nottingham’s Centre for English Language Education (CELE).
If you meet one of the Scottish university’s English-language criteria, you can avoid delivering an IELTS score.
You are able to register at the University of Leicester even without producing an IELTS score if you completed a secondary school or institution in a country recognized by the university as delivering English language education.
If you are an Indian student and got your undergrad degree from one of the few Indian institutions, you may be qualified for an IELTS result exemption.
If your English level is below average, you can register in a form before the language school at the uni’s English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU).
If you do not fulfill the English-language requirements for one of their graduate programs, the University of Strathclyde offers a variety of online from before the English courses.
For the September 2022 and January 2023 admissions, the University of Strathclyde will no longer accept the Duolingo English Test (DET) as confirmation of English language competency. If the test was taken before January 20, 2022, it may still be approved.
Other appropriate English language qualifications can be found here.
If you haven’t fulfilled the English language prerequisites to enroll in a university degree program, you can take a six- or 12-week post-English training course to improve your language abilities.
The University of Essex offers pre-sessional English courses to help you enhance your English language skills before starting university.
If you register in a UEIC Pre-Sessional English curriculum, you will complete Kaplan’s own English language test at the end of the course. If you pass this test, the University will remove the English language course from your primary course offer. You will not be needed to take any more independent English languages tests, such as the IELTS, TOEFL, or Pearson.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
