How to Choose University and Country for MBBS

NEET is among the most popular entrance exams in India. Thus a vast amount of students appear for the exam. But the ratio of the number of seats to the number of students appearing for it is very huge. It makes it very difficult to provide good education and facility to every student. This forces the parents and the students to consider the option of studying abroad. As much it is important to select a suitable career it is also important to select a suitable university and location. Many educational consultants and agents don’t give the correct information to the students. Therefore many students suffer for the wrong choices.

For choosing a location or university it is important to consider some factors. These factors may include your preferences such as country, culture, etc.

Let us consider some essential points in choosing a university abroad.

#1 Age of University

The age of a university is one of the essential factors in making a choice. The older the university the more its reputation and education facility. Choose a university with at least 90-years of experience.

#2 Ranking

According to particular criteria like education, infrastructure, etc., a university is ranked. This rank tells us about the facilities provided by the university. Before choosing a university it is important to check the rank. One can check the World Ranking and Country Ranking of a particular university.

#3 Recognition

Essential criteria to be considered

The university must be recognized by

  1. MCI: medical council of India- It’s important to check this if you wish to come back to India for practice. As per data collected around 70% of students return to India for practice. So your chosen university must be recognized by MCI.
  2. UNESCO accredited university: Many universities or colleges are unaccredited which means they are not recognized by any government organization. If you get a degree from such a university then you won’t be able to apply for any civil service.

#4 Quality of Education

One should always consider this point. While you are searching for a college then check the no. of Indian batches that have passed out from the college. The MCI test passing percentage or ratio should also be checked.

#5 The Medium of Instructions

Sometimes universities can teach the course in their native language. So it becomes important to verify that the language used for teaching is of your comfort. Sometimes some colleges teach in the English language for starting years and then continue the course in their native language. Thus always remember to make sure that language is generally English.

#6 Duration of MBBS Course in Different Countries

Term of course for MBBS changes with every country. Some countries may have 6 years of the complete course. Some may have 5 years of the degree course and 1-year internship making it a total of 6-years. While some may have only a 5-years duration. Thus you are left with the choice to select a university as per duration.

#6 Availability of Indian Mess

When the point comes to food it is an important criterion to consider. We become very much attached to our habitual food. Staying abroad and eating the native food can seem like a good idea but only for few days but not for long period. So always check for the availability of Indian mess as food would keep you healthy and fit. Being a cook is not a always possible option because it would require a lot of time.

#7 University with the Highest MCI and FMGE Test Passing Ratio

The educational quality of the university can be checked by seeing their MCI and FMGE test passing ratio. Also check the number of successes of a university in medical examinations like USMLE, PLAB, etc. These all aspects will help you in making a clear decision.

#8 Expenses and Budget

The most essential factor in the selection of the university. Many colleges may charge 12-13 lakhs. While other colleges with slightly better facilities may charge higher. Most of the colleges take into consideration are from Europe and their fee is economical. Whereas if we talk about Russia then for a month one would have to spend 100 to 150 USD$ ( Indian ruppe1 USD$= 69.31INR). This includes all external payments.

#9 Indian student Ratio

A country having more no. of students from our country can help students in many ways. Check the percentage of Indian students while selecting a university. For example, Canada is having 16% of Indian students. Sometimes more no. of students from a particular country can help in different policies of the government.

#10 ECFMG approval

Always try to learn to check a university from the ECFMG list. The ECFMG checks the degree of an international medical graduate from the council or the authority who sanctioned it. One can check the list of ECFMG list from the WORLD DIRECTORY OF MEDICAL SCHOOL official website.

Consequently, the above factors can help you in choosing your dream college.

As you are moving abroad to study medicine it makes it much more important for you to study with full determination and conquer all the obstacles.

If someone wishes to return to India and practice then it is very necessary to select a college that can help you in clearing the MCI test

Make your decision wisely.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
