What is the Fee for MBBS Government Medical College?

Pursuing medical sciences in India has been made incredibly affordable by government funding in order for it to have a reach across all socio-economic sections of the country. This funding is received by some of the most popular government colleges who provide quality education to the best students across the country. However, it also makes this course a challenging one to pursue.

The authority that conducts MBBS admissions is known as the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), which releases a merit list of those eligible for admissions. During this process, every selected student must fill in and submit his/her preferences. After NEET results, the college selection process is based on several factors by individuals including rhe student’s All-India rank, expenditure and budget, location and college-ranking.

Although the range of MBBS fee could be as low as Rs 10,000 to as high as Rs 5,00,000 per annum, most government funded, premium colleges lie between the range of Rs 10,000 – 50,000. Some of these top colleges spanning across India are listed below:

Below is the fee for some of top MBBS Government Medical Colleges

  1.  AIIMS, Delhi: Being India’s top government medical institution and hospital, AIIMS is the first choice of many. Despite being of high demand, only 50 seats are offered here every year. It is also one of the most affordable and reputable colleges in the country, with an annual fee of about INR 5856/- excluding hostels. However, the same is as high as 75,000 USD for those applying under the NRI quota.
  2. JIPMER: Offering both UG and PG program across its two campuses in Puducherry and Karaikal, this reputed institute annually charges around INR 11,620/- for an MBBS programme with an additional INR 14,000/- for hostel charges. Similar to AIIMS, for those applying under the NRI quota, JIPMER charges about USD 75000 to pursue its course.
  3. MAMC, New Delhi: Another one of India’s oldest and best, The Maulana Azad Medical College has an annual fee of INR 2,445/- whereas about INR 4,445/- must be deposited at the time of admissions. The fee is only applicable to those who enter the college from an All-India quota for its 250 seats.
  4. BMCRI, Bangalore: The only government college in the city, the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute is highly sought-after with only 250 seats to offer. While the first-time annual fees in INR 14,850/-, it generally drops to INR 7,500/- for the upcoming years. The hostel fee per annum generally revolves around INR 27,000/-
  5. GMCH, Hyderabad: Gandhi Medical College, offering 140 seats under MBBS, is known for its rich curriculum. Similar to BMCRI in its fee structure, the amount to be paid at the time of counselling is often INR 14,725/-, while the following annual fee of the college INR 7200/-. The hostel fee at GMCH is about INR 4000/- per month.
  6. KGMU, Lucknow: King George Medical University, which was earlier known as ChhatrapatiShahujiMaharaj Medical University, holds a capacity of 1250 for its UG programme. The fees at KGMU is diversified being INR 18,000/- tuition fee for general and INR 9000/- for SC/ST. Adding the rest of mandated fee, a general student pays around INR 50,000/-, excluding all fee.

The MBBS fee varies across the nation, across colleges. A mandated fee generally breaks down to several segments such as Tuition fee, Library fee, Examination fee, Mediclaim and many more. In most cases, the fee fluctuates every year, and thus, cannot be accurately pin-pointed. However, the current and previous scenarios provide some clarity to base judgement of the college selection process and its affordability.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
