Impact on MBBS students studying in Ukraine?

Ever since the Russia-Ukraine crisis came into existence, various sectors of the society have been deeply affected. In the education sector, many MBBS students who are currently in Ukraine universities, have been making many attempts to get back to India. The latest news to come in this regard is that, one who has half done his degree in Ukraine, will not be allowed to enroll for any Indian MBBS course.

There are currently about 18,000 Indian students in Ukraine, with almost 90 percent of them enrolled in MBBS degree. The National Medical Commission which regulates medical education in India, contains a set of rules that if a course has already started in a foreign country, they will not be allowed to leave it midway and get back the same course in India. It also mandated that it is compulsory for all foreign medical students to complete an MBBS course of at least 54 months, along with the mandatory internship period of 1 year.

It also stated that the entire course, training and internship shall be done in the place where the learning had happened. Another important clarification was about clearing the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE). It is an assessment which is conducted by the National Board of Examination, and it is compulsory for all MBBS graduates from foreign nations to obtain a license and practice the same in the country. They are also expected to complete an additional year of internship inside India.

Officials in the Union health ministry declared that evacuating students from Ukraine, is the country and the government’s priority. Only after they are evacuated safely will further education related discussions happen. For those who have begun their hospital duties from the second year itself, cannot opt for online classes keeping in mind the stability of the present situation.

Many experts suggested that in case MBBS students are in no position to return to Ukraine, for completion of the course, they can appear for the NEET exam and begin the MBBS course in India, freshly. However, this will pose a threat to students in their final year, as they would have to re do the whole process again.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
