Tamil Nadu announces online counselling for MBBS and BDS general category candidates

Covid-19 has taken a toll on almost everything in our lives. The latest element that has been taken under it is the NEET Counselling. NEET has been trending in Tamil Nadu and has taken various turns in terms of judgement. NEET Counselling is an integral part of placements of medical students. Every year, thousands of students get trained with the help of physical counselling. However, Tamil Nadu government announced that, unlike previous years, this year, online counselling will be conducted for the general category candidates who are seeking admission to MBBS and BDS.

The health minister of the state, Ma. Subramaniam has also confirmed that the process will begin on January 27 and priority counselling will be given for special category candidates. Also, the first-round counselling results of the All-India Quota counselling are expected to arrive on the same day. The other announcements that were included were that January 28 and 29 will be the counselling days for government school students who are under the 7.5% quota. It is believed to be a face-to-face counselling as 48 hours have been allotted for the same. The merit list for PG admissions was released on 19th January and PG Counselling had begun on January 20th. The minister gave many number figures which worked completely in favour of the counselling sessions. These were a part of some of the announcements that he made.

Statistics and reports prove that this year, Tamil Nadu has witnessed, at least 100 more seats and these have been added to the government school student’s quota. The department’s website is yet to release the detailed schedule for counselling. In addition to other changes, the State government has also taken a decision to fill up close to 7,000 MBBS seats and nearly 1,930 seats for BDS. There has been an uprise as this year there are close to 540 seats when compared to last year’s 436 seats under the government student’s quota.

PG medical demands have also seen a rise in recent times. Keeping this in mind, 20th January was the day announced for PG counselling. This counselling will consist of candidates who aspire for PG medical, dental services and other post graduate courses in the medical field. During this counselling period, they will be guided and would be allowed to register in their choices in order to excel. The Minister also mentioned that to date, there are 2,216 seats for post graduate programs but for the contrary, the State government has surrendered nearly half of them to the All-India Quota and currently has only 1,163 seats under State quota. The results are not yet released and are likely to be released on January 23, Sunday.

In the opinion of the Minister, out of the 16,693 seats in paramedical courses, almost all have been filled with a whopping 16,486 seats already occupied. He also stated that they received many applications this year with recording numbers of 58,000, which is the main reason counselling and results have been delayed. But with just 407 seats unfilled for paramedical courses, there is still hope for it to get filled with the increasing number of medical aspirants that continue to grow day after day.

Like every other year, students work hard to get their seats in medical colleges across the country. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, requested the Prime Minister, to remove the NEET barrier for students in Tamil Nadu but his request still remains unanswered till date. With the counselling sessions and results still awaited, it remains a mystery to see what it has in store for us.

Client Testimonial

MBBS Abroad is a big decision and your success depends upon the honesty of your consultant. It is a long process starting from choosing the right college to reaching there at college door step and finally studying there for next 5-6 years. You are in a new country without many old friends. We were sure to approach a consultant who is based out of our district only so that not only during admission but for next 6 years, we can have smooth interactions. So, we approached GKWorks as they have a branch in Saharanpur. As we anticipated, there are lot of things to be done during admission process that goes for 3-4 months. At every step, it was useful for us to have our consultant who was only 20 minutes’ drive from our home. We were able to discuss everything face to face any day and thus were able to have easy process.
