MBBS in foreign for Indian students?

The National Medical Commission(NMC) has given major relief to Indian students who are currently pursuing MBBS in foreign universities and medical colleges by stating that theory sessions should be attended online. However, the practical sessions and practices should be attended in person at the institute where the student studies.

The Commission has mandated that students must attend the practical sessions and provide documentation to verify their participation. The latest guidelines have included these requirements for medical students who were admitted after November 18, 2021. 

Students who are currently studying MBBS or have already completed the courses from foreign universities before these guidelines were published, should adhere to the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) regulations.

Here are some points that students must note that was given by the top medical bodies:

1. The candidates are required to fulfill a minimum of 54 months of undergraduate medical training, which will be conducted in the English language. 
2. The students must successfully complete the theory, practical, and clinical training, which is equivalent to the MBBS training provided in India. 
3. The candidates have to compulsorily complete a 12-month internship at the hospital affiliated with the same institute. 
4. Candidates who have completed MBBS from foreign universities should take the National Exit Test or equivalent qualifying test prescribed by the NMC. 
5. The candidates are expected to obtain registration in the country where they have studied MBBS. Additionally, they are required to obtain the necessary license to practice and treat patients.
6. Students should complete the course within 10 years of joining.
7. The internship and the examination must be completed in the same country where the medical qualification was awarded.
8. Students should mandatorily do the 12-month internship in India after completing their foreign medical graduation. 
9. It is important to note that the candidates are required to complete the internship after successfully finishing the MBBS course. However, the clinical posting is an integral part of the 54-month-long course.
