The field of MBBS is the dream of many across the nation. The competition makes it a strenuous journey and the path often disappoints those who fail to get into government funded college. Enrolling under the NRI quota is financially beyond the reach of most Indians, and thus, leaves thousands of students disheartened. Yet, there are many options unexplored.

Here are top private colleges that offer quality education to aspiring students at a low fee:

  1. CCM Medical College, Durg: Based in Chhatisgarh, this college is self-funded and licensed under the MCI (Medical Council of India). Since its inception in 2013, it has only been growing in reach and offers 150 seats every year. With an annual tuition fee of INR 5,18,500/- and other charges upto 50,000, this college also offers a variety of scholarships to their students based on merit as well the economically weaker sections.
  2. KIMS, Bangalore: Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences is one of the best of Karnataka. One does not have to hassle through another exam and can simply use their NEET Scorecard to take admissions. With an annual fee of INR 1,14,600/-, this college has been providing quality education since 1980 and is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Health.
  3. Christian Medical College, Vellore: A minority-run educational and research institute, Christian Medical College offers one of the best educational institutes only for INR 1,67,000 every year. Established since 1900, the college certainly has built a reputation for itself over the years and also takes admissions via the NEET Scorecard.
  4. Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha: With world-class health facilities, this college is certainly worth the investment. With an annual fee of INR 2,51,800/-, it provides to students some of the most qualified staff across the country. Applying candidates are chosen based on NEET’s selection process and eligibility criteria.
  5. St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore: Slightly on the more expensive side, St. John’s Medical college charges an average of INR 5,46,400/- every year. However, the college’s ranking has been enhancing since the past ten years, making it one of the best. The college also offers a variety of scholarships based on merit to ease financial burdens. To apply to this college, candidates must apply to the Karnataka Examination Authority(KEA) for the counselling process. The admissions are then granted on the basis on NEET UG Rank/Score.
  6. KJ Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore: With an intake of 150 students per annum, the college offers both government and private admissions. While the government admissions cost about INR 1,24,403/-, the private counterpart of the same costs an average of INR 7,85,565/-. Like many others, this institute also offer – both its government and private seats – based on the NEET results.

All fees are subject to change annually while they mostly fluctuate around the same number. They exclude accommodation charges, however if one finds it expensive, they may also seek accommodation outside of the campus. While medical outside of government funding seems like an expensive venture, most institutes themselves and external private as well as government initiatives provide scholarships based on merit. Another option to many is that of student loan for the economically challenged, which is often provided based on credit score of the family.
