Reservation for the ‘wards of COVID warriors’ in MBBS BDS courses 

The Union Health Ministry recently announced for a new category of candidates who are ‘Wards of COVID Warriors’ in courses like MBBS and BDS under central pool for the upcoming academic year. The Ministry also mentioned that, some percent of seats will be reserved for the new category in the academic year 2020-21.

“It aims to honor the selfless contribution of the COVID warriors in the treatment process of the COVID patients. It dignifies the sacrifice of all the COVID warriors who were dedicated toward their duty”, said by the Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan.

“The seats reserved in the medical courses will be for the candidates, from the wards of COVID warriors, who gave up their life during COVID treating their patients, or died after getting infected by the virus on duty”, specially mentioned by the Ministry.

It also added that, for this new category only those would be benefitted who are wards of: 

  • all private hospital staff members, 
  • the retired staff of hospitals who contributed during COVID war,
  • the staff of reputed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS),
  • also the members of central or autonomous hospitals under the central/state/UTs, 
  • the warrior staff from Institutes of National Importance(INIs) ,etc.

Also, The Ministry promised the COVID warriors for about Rs 50 Lakh insurance package, but to those fulfilling the eligibility defined by the Government of India.

The selection of candidates will done based on their rank secured in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) which is conducted under the guidance of National Testing Agency (NTA) and this whole process is performed by the Medical Council Commitment (MCC).
