Every year, the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET (UG), releases strict dress code guidelines to ensure fairness and prevent malpractice. Following these rules is essential, as even small violations can lead to delays or complications at the exam center.
The general principle of the NEET dress code is simplicity. Candidates are advised to wear light-colored, comfortable clothing with minimal design. Clothes should not have large buttons, heavy embroidery, or metallic items like zippers, brooches, or badges. Half-sleeve outfits are preferred, as full sleeves may invite extra checking or may not be allowed at some centers.
For male candidates, the recommended attire includes a simple half-sleeve shirt or T-shirt paired with plain trousers or pants. Traditional outfits like kurta-pajama are generally not permitted. It is also advisable to avoid clothing with multiple pockets, as these can raise concerns during security checks.
Female candidates should opt for simple half-sleeve tops or kurtis without heavy designs or embellishments. Outfits such as heavily designed dresses, full sleeves, or garments with excessive layers should be avoided. While rules may slightly vary by center, it is safest to stick to plain and straightforward clothing to prevent any issues.
Footwear rules are particularly strict. Shoes, sneakers, and high heels are not allowed. Candidates should wear only slippers or simple sandals with low heels. This rule is enforced to make security checks faster and more efficient.
In addition to clothing, several accessories are strictly prohibited. Items such as jewelry (rings, earrings, chains), watches, belts, caps, and sunglasses are not allowed inside the examination hall. Electronic devices, including mobile phones and smart gadgets, are also completely banned.
Candidates who wear religious or customary attire are allowed to do so, but they must declare it during the application process. They are also required to report to the exam center earlier than usual to allow for proper security checks.
On exam day, security procedures such as frisking and metal detection are carried out thoroughly. Not adhering to the dress code can result in extended checking time and, in extreme cases, denial of entry. Therefore, it is important to plan your outfit in advance and follow all guidelines carefully.
In conclusion, the safest approach for NEET aspirants is to keep their attire simple, light, and free from any unnecessary accessories. A plain half-sleeve T-shirt, comfortable trousers, and slippers are considered the best choice. By following these guidelines, candidates can avoid last-minute stress and focus entirely on performing well in the exam.

Best thing about Vivek Gupta Sir is his selfless counselling. As I am already a BSC/ MSC, he suggested me to go to Philippines as I was able to get straight admission into MD and this finishes my entire course in 4 years flat. In any other country, it would have taken by 5.5-6 years. Ms Kanimojhi in Chennai office of GKWorks was equally supportive in coordination regarding documents, departure and all other formalities.
We live 100 Km’s away from Varanasi. The internet connection in our town is very weak and my parents are not that educated. For us, understanding the word RTGS was also very difficult. Thanks to Amit Pandey Sir, who is Gkworks Varanasi incharge, he helped us to do all small things. Going with us to get forex to helping us doing RTGS for fee payment, he was always there with us. He only helped us to apply for passport online and went with us to passport office Varanasi. Such support at ground level was provided by GKworks team both in Varanasi and Delhi.
My parents were not very comfortable to send me abroad especially my mother as I am the only son of my parents. I really wanted to become a doctor and thus approached Hemant Mishra Sir, director of Bareilly branch of GKWorks. He went out of his way to convince my mother. He would have come 5 times to my home, invited us to his office and home 10 times before my mother was finally convinced. It is only due to Hemant Sir in Bareilly that I am pursuing my course today. I wish GKworks and especially Bareilly branch all the very best to help many more students for their life dreams.
