Update on medical education in India by health minister

The MoS health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar informed the Lok Sabha that if we count no of medical colleges by today’s date then they are 558 in number with capacity of 83275 MBBS seats and 42720 PG seats.
Further if we differentiate them then government controls 289 medical colleges and on the other hand 269 medical colleges are controlled by private sector.
New medical colleges which are 157 in number have been approved in three phases under the scheme “Establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing district/referral hospitals” by the minister of state, ministry of Health and Family welfare in the parliament.
